THE SHORE
An origin story.
The sea, and even more specifically The North Sea, is a love story that began in childhood. But, as I grew up with the shore always at my disposal, I had little appreciation for it as a child.
That changed when I was forced to move land inwards. First and for the longest time living in Ghent, the shore, and mostly that one of Knokke-Heist, was only a drive away. A drive I drove frequently. I realized speaking to other artists, photographers and friends, that the relationship I have with water is somewhat founder than most.
Every time I see the water washing up the grains of sand, it looks different. It moves differently, the light has changed. It is a place of never ending stories, meditation and where I feel whole. Traveling to islands has been my favourite destination, to see the other languages of the water and try to understand them.
